Perdika boosts Boughey's big-race hopes for the weekend

George Boughey warmed up nicely for a huge weekend by saddling Perdika to win the Prix Ronde de Nuit at Chantilly on Tuesday.

The Newmarket-based handler - who sees Al Dasim go in search of Meydan riches in the Al Quoz Sprint on Dubai World Cup night this Saturday - held a strong hand for the five-and-a-half-furlong Listed contest, responsible for the odds-on favourite Proverb and his winning stablemate Perdika.

A winner of four on the bounce on the all-weather before Christmas, the Sally Nicholls-owned filly has continued to run with real consistency in Meydan in the early part of 2022 before putting her match fitness to good use on this occasion.

Whereas a lack of a recent run told for Proverb in a strongly-run event, Pedrika's peak conditioning came to the fore in the closing stages as she held on bravely in very soft ground to score by a head from Whistle And Flute.

"She was obviously very fit coming from Dubai and it was a very good performance," said Boughey.

"It slightly took me by surprise and she has now shown a very good attitude on fast ground, the all-weather and very soft ground, so she is clearly a very versatile filly. She was very fit and clearly a lot fitter than my other runner.

"She ran very well out in Meydan and finished second to Al Dasim who is favourite for a Group One and on that form, hitting the line well, she was probably a bigger price here than she should have been."

He added: "We're obviously delighted, Sally Nicholls who bred her and races her has had a lot of fun with her and won quite a lot of money. She won three Great British bonus races at £20,000 a go and then picked up £20,000 out in Dubai and now a Listed win. It's huge for them and I'm delighted for Sally."
